Welcome to Lagos, Luz & Sagres - West Algarve Beach Guide

Praia da Luz beach
A long, golden curve of sand, flanked by rocks at the western end, where you can hunt for shellfish and rock crabs, and the 'Rocha Negra' to the east. Luz is an ideal family beach with its own picturesque charm and a wide selection of bars, restaurants and tourist shops dotted along the promenade that runs behind it. Decent parking opportunities make it very accessible but in high-season you will have to pay to use the car park by the small centro-commercial which is the closest to the beach (about ten yards walk all told). There are also public conveniences here - which is nice. There's a lovely atmosphere in the town generally due to the good mix of young 'uns, oldsters and all ranges in between. The town has seen a lot of development recently so we can only hope that Praia da Luz retains its charm despite the growth.

There are two 'beach huts' offering water-sports activities (windsurf, pedaloes, banana speed boat trips etc.) and other beach gear (sun loungers, sun umbrellas etc.) both with friendly staff and good quality instructors. These are located on the eastern side close towards the Rocha Negra (black rock) but are only open from May to October.

Beach life goes on into the evening because of the proximity of the restaurants and the Prive nightclub, which is less than 20 yards from the beach. It's a popular past-time to take a last 'bica' (coffee) or chilled 'Imperial' (half-a-lager) at the various cafes around the small square, catch up with any news, before heading home for the night.
